The Down Word you see today was solidified in fall ’08. This innovative and unique group of individuals brings intense diversity and a very well rounded sound, to pique the interest of any music lover. With catchy, hard-rocking guitar riffs, funk, blues, and ballads, guitarist Christian Jensen takes the listener on a journey throughout each song. Having a background in and the ability to play in nearly all musical styles, from metal to R&B, drummer Steve Warner uses his skill in interesting ways and goes the extra mile to add a little spice to the flavor of Down Word. Highly skilled with an amazing ability to adapt his unique style of funk, bassist Steve Tran is the back bone of each song. Down Word sets themselves apart from many other bands with lead vocalist J Martinez’s hip-hop/grunge singing styles and thought provoking lyrics. Paying close attention to detail, Down Word is a high quality musical fusion with great respect for the genres utilized by their creativity.
The band has been spotlighted numerous times in newspapers, podcasts, and entertainment blogs. They have won various “Battle of the Bands” including a regional competition to perform on the Ernie Ball stage on Vans Warped Tour 13 in Fresno, Ca. They have been invited to play at some well known regional music festivals as well, such as: Rogue Festival, Fresno Urban Sound Experience, and Band With A Mission Showcase in Nashville, TN. “It All Comes Back Around Again”, Down Word’s first demo album, was written, recorded, and published in April 2010. The album has brought them much regional attention and success. Now looking forward to the future, Down Word has further refined their sound and has begun recording their second official release (Title still TBA).
